The Aulonocara Baenschi or Sunshine Peacock as it is more commonly known, was first described in 1985 by noted aquarium enthusiast Ulrich Baensch. A native to Lake Malawi in East Africa, they have a very limited geographical imprint on the lake, Found on the wastern shore of the lake primarily near the Nkhomo Reef. Males have an intense yellow body and a metallic blue face. Females are an olive/gray with several vertical stripes. Males will reach 6 to 7" in length. A moderately peaceful fish, they can get territorial when breeding. Diet consists of any commercial cichlid pellet or flake food.
