The history of The Red Cap Oranda dates back to the 1500's. Developed through selective breeding originally by the Japanese and introduced widely throughout China, the Red Cap Oranda is known for it's dynamic elegance and red hood on top of it's head. They can grow quite large (softball size bodies) and can live for as long as 30 years. As a member of the Carp family, Orandas are diggers and are known for trying to landscape their own aquarium. Omnivores, they thrive on a varied diet of pellets, flakes, and live foods. the key is variation. Pretty good neighbors in a community environment as long as all are of a similar size
