One of the more popular variations of the Julichromis family. These fish are native to Lake Tanganyika where they inhabit rocky crags and caves along the shoreline. Generally peaceful, they are best kept in groups of 5 or more where their social structure can naturally develop. Tolerant of a fairly wide range of water parameters, these are best kept in aquariums where the PH is higher and the water hardness is relatively high also. They will grow to about 2 1/2 to 3" with males slightly larger than that. One of the most appealing aspects of the Transcriptus is the beautiful blue edge that develops on the fins. Truly a welcome addition to the aquarium.
