Native to the slower, murky waters of Central America this fish is arguably the most well known cichlid in the aquarium hobby. A beautiful dark fish with iridescent spots all over it's body, it is also aggressive and territorial. Will reach a length of 8 to 10" and has a life span of 10 to 15 years. Needs a larger aquarium and some robust similarly sized tankmates, A carnivore, they will require some high quality cichlid pellets supplemented with live or frozen offerings. A hardy fish, it will tolerate a wide range of water parameters.
