Native to the Amazon River basin, this color morph has been selectively bred for years. Very popular among South American cichlid enthusiasts, this fish will reach an adult size of 6" or more. Hardy and adaptable, they prefer slightly acidic, softer water parameters. Not nearly as aggressive as most of the other South American cichlids, this milder mannered cichlid can be kept in a community tank with smaller fish provided they aren't small enough to fit in it's mouth. An opportunistic feeder, they will easily take to pellets. earthworms, meal worms, crickets and just about anything else that will fit in its mouth.
