This Lake Tanganyikan denizen inhabits the deeper water columns of the lake. Often forming large schools on the shoals of the lake. It's primary food source is plankton but in captivity, will accept a wide variety of flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia, and mysis shrimp. A peaceful inhabitant, the males have spectacular coloration, females....not so much. They have been a part of the aquarium hobby since the early 1900's and have a unique breeding process that includes the males lining up for evaluation by the female before she chooses her mate. A mouthbrooder, the female will carry the eggs and fry for approximately 3 weeks before releasing the babies.
